EU football anti-racism group chief branded a racist for calling an Asian fan a 'coconut'

The executive director of Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), Piara Powar, has been branded a racist for calling an Asian fan a "coconut".

Replying to Parmjit Singh's Twitter comment about a football fan's arrest, Indian-origin Powar said: "Get lost Singh. Don't be a coconut."

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool fan Parmjit Singh, 34, had tweeted @piarapower: "Interesting how u haven't given your opinion on the news that a pounds mufc fan was arrested on Wednesday for alleged racial abuse."

Singh was referring to Manchester United fan Howard Hobson, 57, who was fined 200 pounds for chanting racist abuse at a Black Stoke City player during a match on January 31.

The alleged racial comment stems from a coconut being brown on the outside and white on the inside.

Singh, a postman from the West Midlands, said he was appalled by Powar's comments and has branded him a 'hypocrite'. (ANI)
